Investing.com – Australia stocks were higher after the close on Monday, as gains in theMetals & Mining, Resources and Gold sectors led shares higher.
At the close in Australia, the S&P/ASX 200 gained 0.05%.
The best performers of the session on the S&P/ASX 200 were Liquefied Natural Gas Ltd(AX:LNG), which rose 8.76% or 0.060 points to trade at 0.745 at the close. Meanwhile, Slater & Gordon Ltd (AX:SGH) added 7.83% or 0.065 points to end at 0.895 and Ten Network Holdings Ltd (AX:TEN) was up 6.45% or 0.010 points to 0.165 in late trade.
The worst performers of the session were Arrium Ltd (AX:ARI), which fell 6.90% or 0.004 points to trade at 0.054 at the close. Austal Ltd (AX:ASB) declined 5.45% or 0.085 points to end at 1.475 and Sigma Pharmaceuticals Ltd (AX:SIP) was down 5.36% or 0.045 points to 0.795.
Falling stocks outnumbered advancing ones on the Australia Stock Exchange by 569 to 456 and 124 ended unchanged.
Shares in Arrium Ltd (AX:ARI) fell to all time lows; losing 6.90% or 0.004 to 0.054.
The S&P/ASX 200 VIX, which measures the implied volatility of S&P/ASX 200 options, was down 2.06% to 17.869.
Gold for February delivery was up 0.37% or 3.90 to $1068.90 a troy ounce. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Crude oil for delivery in February fell 0.90% or 0.33 to hit $35.73 a barrel, while the February Brent oil contract fell 0.70% or 0.26 to trade at $36.40 a barrel.
AUD/USD was down 0.15% to 0.7176, while AUD/JPY rose 0.10% to 87.06.
The US Dollar Index was down 0.05% at 98.68.
